New Directions for Veterans, a Los Angeles organization whose mission is to empower veterans and facilitate their successful return to families and society, hosted their annual Honoring Our Heroes Gala Dinner last week in Beverly Hills. Alpha Construction is proud to announce that one of the honorees at this year’s gala was our president, Irv Laxineta, who was recognized for leading Alpha Construction to partner with New Directions on supportive housing projects for homeless veterans.
“Irv and Alpha Construction have been a tremendous partner because of their leadership but also because of their commitment to helping us get men and women who have served our military off of the streets of LA,” said New Directions for Veterans President and CEO, Gregory C. Scott.
California has more homeless veterans than any other state, and research suggests that one in every four homeless persons in LA County is a veteran—as many as 25,000 in this county alone. Alpha Construction has partnered with New Directions on four Housing for Veterans projects in the LA area: Sepulveda I and II (pictured above), El Monte Veterans Apartments, and Beswick Senior Apartments.
In all, these four supportive housing residences built in partnership between Alpha Construction and New Directions for Veterans are now home to over 200 previously-homeless veterans.
“I was a veteran myself, and I have seen the problems that veterans returning from combat are facing,” said Irv Laxineta, president of Alpha Construction. “I do have empathy for them, and I am happy to be involved.”
